Malignant Tumors of Stomach


Abstract
This is to report tour experience with cases of malignant tumors of stomach seen at Presbyterian Medical Center of Chonju, during the period of years from Jan, 1962 to Dec. 1966,
1) The stomach cancer comprises 29.5% of all malignant tumors diagnoses at Presbyterian Medical Center at the same period (Table I)
2) This disease was most common at 5 th decade of life 240 cases (37.3 % ; (Table 111)
3) Male predominate the female by 3.5:1 ¢¥
4) The common Complaints were indigastion 97.5% epigastric burning pain 99.5%
post prandial fulness 94.5% anorexia 79.7%
in order of frequency. (Table 7-A)
5) The common physical finding were palpable mass 1%
tpigartic tenderness 0%
Anemia; 12% (Table 7B)
6) The most patient had symptoms Iess than I year. (73.3%) (Table 5)
7) Preoperative diagnosis at stomach cancer was made before surgery is 85.5% of all cases.
8) All cases but had carcinoma of stomach and remaining patient had lymphosarcoma (Table X.11-B)
9) Eighty five percent of tumors were located in the antrum and the restin the body, fundus and cardia
in order, (Table IX)
10) The procedure perfomed were as follow.
1. Curative resection 102 cases 21.8%
2. Palliative gartrectomy 194 cases 38.1%
3. Gartrojejunostomy 89 cases 18.6%
4. Gastrostomy 21 cases 5.1%
Jejunojejunostomy 1 0.1%
Feeding ileostomy 1 0.1%
Biopsy only 61 13.1% Biopsy of distant matastasis (neck and axillary etc)
11) Of the cases who has curative resection 34 cases
(33.3%) was free of metastasis without perigastric nodes.
12) Of the 34 cases who was free of metastasis without perigstric nodes. 15 cases (44.4%) is now IivinL
without disease for 6 month to 4 years
13) Of who had metastasis to regional nodes (19.0%) is now Iiving without disease for 6 month to 4 years.
